The African Green Hydrogen Hub was launched on the 11th of April 2024 at Strathmore University, with the intention to drive the innovative shift towards sustainable energy, not only within the African continent but also on a global scale.<\/p>\n

As the world is looking for ways to find alternative sources of energy, green hydrogen presents a key option in the transition away from fossil fuels, reducing carbon emissions and fostering a greener future. For Africa, green hydrogen offers a viable solution to the pressing challenges of energy security, environmental sustainability, and economic development.<\/p>\n

Kenya, in particular, holds great promise for its production, but generally lacks the skills required to successfully operate green hydrogen plants. While posing as a challenge, the skills gap is also a great opportunity to skill, upskill and reskill young people, potentially driving job creation.<\/p>\n

A Deloitte report indicates that the sector could support up to 1.5 million jobs in developing countries per year between 2030 and 2050, signaling a great opportunity to leverage in dealing with the unemployment issue in the continent. Jacob\u2019s Ladder Africa, in collaboration with industry partners, is championing the building of capacity among African youth to support the emerging green hydrogen sector.<\/p>\n

One of the pathways we are seeking to drive skill acquisition while pioneering solutions in the sector is greenLabs, our early-stage incubation program. We are excited to be working with young innovators in the new cohort who are developing renewable energy solutions, including those that leverage green hydrogen, that will create value in Kenya and Africa.<\/p>\n
